UWSP Men’s hockey rises to second in D3hockey.com poll

The UW-Stevens Point men’s hockey team moved up one spot to second in the D3hockey.com Men’s Top 15 and also climbed to fourth in the USCHO.com rankings, as released on Monday.

The rises in the rankings come after the Pointers made it eight wins out of eight by defeating Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) and Marian on Nov. 22-23. In the D3hockey rankings, UWSP received four first-place votes and 278 points and sits just 13 points behind top-ranked Plattsburgh State. The Pointers also got one first-place vote in the USCHO poll.

Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) led UW-Stevens Point with three goals over the weekend. The sophomore scored once against MSOE before scoring both UWSP goals, both in the third period. in the 2-0 win over Marian.

The Pointers continue to lead the nation in scoring offense (6.25 goals/game) and are tied for fifth defensively, yielding 1.38 goals a game.

UW-Stevens Point faces defending national champion and seventh-ranked UW-Eau Claire in Eau Claire on Friday. The Pointers return to K.B. Willett Arena on Saturday to take on UW-Stout.
