Pointer women’s hockey team tops Marian on Tuesday night
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Three different Pointers tallied goals on Tuesday evening as the seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point women’s hockey team skated to a 3-1 win over Marian University at Ice Hawks Arena.
The Pointers (7-1-0) got on the board with 49 seconds remaining in the first period when Jamie Ertl (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) scored off a Kendal Nelson assist to put UWSP in front 1-0 after the opening period.
Hailey Rock (Hammond, WI/Central) pushed the advantage to 2-0 UWSP at the 2:21 mark of the second off an assist from Rachel Reynard (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville).
Cassandra Salmen (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) then made the score 3-0 Pointers at the 15:29 mark scoring off Emily Lester (Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) and Nelson assists.
In the third, the Sabres capitalized on a UWSP penalty to score their lone goal of the evening on the power play, making the score 3-1.
Hillary Drake (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) tallied 11 saves in net, earning the victory, her second of the season. Amanda Alexander notched 36 saves in net for the Sabres.
The Pointers return to conference play on Friday, playing host to UW-Eau Claire. Game time at Ice Hawks Arena is set for 7 p.m.
