Pointer men’s hockey team now 7-0 after rolling MSOE

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Six different players scored as the No. 5 UW-Stevens Point men’s hockey team won its seventh consecutive game to start the season with a 6-1 victory over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Friday night at the Kern Center, a game heard on Sports Fan 100.5 and espn1005.com.

Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI/Fenton), the nation’s leading scorer, and Lawrence Cornellier (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) each had a goal and an assist for UW-Stevens Point (7-0). The Pointers outshot the Raiders (0-7) by a 49-20 margin in the game.

UWSP led 1-0 after one and 3-1 after two periods but put the game out of reach in the third. The Pointers scored three times and had 21 shots in the final period.

Just 21 seconds into the third period, Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) gave UWSP a three-goal lead at 4-1 off an assist by Cornellier. The goal was Heck’s fourth of the season.

Ladd’s team-best eighth goal in seven games accounted for the fifth Pointers goal. Kyle Sharkey (Moore, OK/Insight School of Kansas) picked up one of his two assists on the night on Ladd’s goal, while Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI) also earned a helper.

Cornellier capped the scoring from Max Bobrow (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Evan Dixon (Novi, MI) at 13:15, just 17 seconds after Ladd’s goal. Kyle Brodie (Denver, CO/Northglenn), Joe Kalisz (Davison, MI/Davison) and Evan Dixon (Novi, MI) scored the first three goals for UW-Stevens Point. Kalisz’s goal came on the power play in the second period.

Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) made 19 saves in net for UWSP to improve to 6-0 this season. Nick Kohn kept out 43 shots for the Raiders, whose lone goal came from Logan Bauman midway through the second period on the power play. MSOE was 1-for-9 with the man advantage in the game.
