Wausau West hockey team beats SPASH and earns fourth straight trip to state
Behind a pair of goals from freshman Cale Bowman, the Wausau West hockey team beat Stevens Point 5-3 at the K.B. Willett Arena Saturday afternoon in a sectional final heard on 1230 The Voice. The win lifts the Warriors into their fourth consecutive state tournament starting on Thursday against Verona in a state quarterfinal. Justin Zahn, Zach Peterson, and Tanner Gould also had goals for West, who finished second in the Wisconsin Valley Conference to SPASH. The Panthers played without starting goaltender Nathan Siclovan, who suffered a concussion in Tuesday’s win over Northland Pines. SPASH got goals from Jake Jaworski, Nick Page, and Tyler McHugh.
Thursday’s state game between Wausau West and Verona can be heard on 1230 The Voice and 1230wxco.com starting with the pregame show at 11:30 a.m. and the opening face-off at 12 noon.
