9 Pointers receive WIAC hockey honors

MADISON, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin Stevens Point men’s hockey team had nine student-athletes receive All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) accolades for their efforts in the 2012-13 season.

First team selections include defender Alex Brooks (Grand Rapids, MI) and forward Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH).

Joshua Daley (Pittsburgh, PA), Kevin Gibson (Grosse Pointe, MI/North), Scott Henegar (Trenton, MI/Trenton), Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park), Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic) and Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI) all received honorable mention honors.

As a defender, Brooks appeared in all 26 games for the Pointers. He tallied three goals on the season and recorded 10 assists, for 13 points. Against UW-Stout on Dec. 7 he recorded three assists to help UWSP to an 8-0 win. Brooks finished the season at plus 13.

Heck led UWSP this season with 12 goals, including three powerplay goals and two game winners. To go along with his 12 goals he also handed out nine assists through 26 games to go plus 13 on the season. On three different occasions this year Heck tallied two goals in a game.

Daley, an honorable mention selection finished with eight goals and 11 assists on the year. Two of his goals came on the powerplay and two proved to be game-winning goals. He also recorded two-two assist games on the year. The sophomore forward was plus 14 on the season.

Gibson, a sophomore defender, finished at plus 10 on the year, posting two goals and 13 assists. His 13 assists were second best on the team.

Henegar finished second on the team with 10 goals, including four powerplay goals, one shorthanded and three game winners. On Jan. 11-12, the sophomore tallied a two goal game in back-to-back nights. Henegar was plus 11 on the season and handed out six assists.

Jaeger was 11-5-1 as a goalie for the Pointers this season. The sophomore gave up 46 goals in 19 games, with a goals against average of 2.62. He finished with a team-high 349 saves, blocking 88.4 percent of the shots.

Andrew Kolb (Toledo, OH/Toledo Catholic) appeared in 21 games for the Pointers, tallying nine goals and 12 assists. The sophomore finished the season with three game-winning goals. On two different occasions he posted a two goals and one assist game.

Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI) led UWSP this year with 15 assists as he went plus 15 on the season. To go along with his 15 assists he also scored six goals of his own. On Dec. 29 against Adrian College, Ladd tallied a season-high three assists.

Senior captain Jerry Freismuth (Grosse Pointe, MI/North) was selected to the All-Sportsmanship team this year for his exemplary sportsmanship throughout the season. Freismuth finished the season with four goals and 11 assists for the Pointers.
