Girls’ BB: Newman hands Assumption first loss

A 14-0 first quarter run gave Newman a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as the Cardinals beat Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 67-59 in a Marawood-South girls’ basketball match-up at the Newman gym on Monday night, a game heard on 1230 The Voice and 1230wxco.com. Newman got balanced scoring with 5 players between 9 and 12 points. Maddie Tubbs and Kim Steif each had 12 points for Newman while Abby Connolly added 10 and Christina Grunow chipped in with 10. Mary Sigler had a game-high 23 points for the Royals, who fell to 20-1 overall and 13-1 in the Marawood-South. Newman improves to 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the conference.
