UWSP men’s hockey team season ends as Pointers fall to UWRF in mini game
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point men’s hockey team’s season came to an end Saturday night when UW-River Falls won the second game of the NCHA Quarterfinals 4-1 and then won the subsequent mini-game 3-1.

The Pointers entered Saturday’s competition with a one-game lead over the Falcons, but River Falls netted three goals in the second period en route to its 4-1 victory.
The Pointers jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the first game when Garrett Ladd (Fenton, MI) scored on an assist from Jerry Freismuth (Grosse Pointe, MI/North).
The Falcons evened the score late in the first period off the stick of Alec Hagaman.
River Falls piled on 15 shots on goal in the second period and scored three times in the frame.
UWSP goalie Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, MN/Champlin Park) recorded 22 saves.
The Falcons claimed an early 1-0 lead in the mini-game, but the Pointers’ Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) evened the score at 12:06.
The Falcons’ Jake Calleja scored with 30 seconds remaining to give River Falls a 2-1 lead, and Bill Simon added an insurance goal 14 seconds later.
The Pointers outshot the Falcons in the mini-game, 11-8.
UWSP closes its season with an overall mark of 15-11-1 and 8-9-1 in the NCHA.
