Boys’ BB: Mosinee tops Newman while Northland Lutheran beats Athens and other action

A quick 13-2 start gave Mosinee a lead they wouldn’t relinquish as the Indians beat Newman Catholic 57-37 in a non-conference boys’ basketball match-up heard on 1230 The Voice and 1230wxco.com. 4 different Mosinee players had 11 points as Max Soderberg, Brandon Piotrowski, Jay Ritger, and Andy Maas paced the balanced scoring attack. Marcus Gabriel had 12 points for Newman, who lost their third straight to drop to 6-12. Mosinee has won three of their last four to improve to 8-10.

Manawa gets their first CWC-8 win of the season 68-47 at Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Mitchell School had 22 points for the Chargers, who fell to 8-10 overall and 4-7 in the conference.

Tim Venus had 22 points to help Northland Lutheran past Athens 63-56. The Wildcats turned a 31-24 halftime deficit into a 42-37 lead after three quarters by outscoring the Blue Jays 18-6 in the third quarter. Shane Coker had 22 points for Athens, who fell to 10-10. Northland improves to 5-12.
