Hockey: West, Rapids and Storm all #1 seeds for upcoming playoffs
Seeding meetings were held on Sunday for the upcoming WIAA boys’ and girls’ hockey playoffs. On the boys’ side, Wausau West and Wisconsin Rapids earned top seeds in their respective sectionals while the Central Wisconsin Storm got a top seed in the girls’ bracket.
Wausau West, which has advanced to the state championship game in each of the last three years with an WIAA title in 2011, gets the top seed in Sectional 3 and a first round bye. On either February 14th or 15th, the Warriors will meet the winner of the first round game between 9th seeded Lakeland and #8 Wausau East. Also getting first round byes were second seeded SPASH, third seeded Northland Pines and #4 D. C. Everest. Antigo is seeded fifth and will host #12 Merrill in the first round on February 12th. Mosinee is seeded sixth and will be home against #11 Rhinelander on February 12th. Pacelli is the 7 seed and hosting #10 Tomahawk on February 12th as well.
Wisconsin Rapids is the top seed in Sectional 4 and will have a first round bye. The Red Raiders will be home against either #9 seed LaCrosse Central/Logan or #8 Tomah on Thursday, February 14th. Marshfield is the #7 seed in Sectional 2 and will be home against Medford on February 12th.
The defending state champion Central Wisconsin Storm is the top seed and will host #8 Tomahawk at the Mosinee Rec Center on February 14th. The Stevens Point/Wisconsin Rapids co-op is seeded fifth and will travel to #4 Rhinelander in their first playoff game. Marshfield is seeded third and will host #6 Lakeland while Medford is seeded 7th and will play at #2 Northland Pines in their first round game.
