Hockey: DCE snaps West’s long WVC unbeaten streak while SPASH wins to take over first in conference
Cole Halligan scored twice while Andy Mahler records the shutout as D. C. Everest shuts out Wausau West 3-0 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference hockey match-up at Marathon Park on Thursday night in a game heard on 1230 The Voice. Halligan beat West goalie Sam Wiegert over the left shoulder at 4:52 of the first period to give the Evergreens the lead. Two minutes later it was Brandon Dively scoring his 10th goal of the season to make it 2-0 DCE. The Evergreens added to their lead with 4:12 remaining in the second period as Halligan scored his second of the night and 11th of the season. Mahler stopped 17 shots in the third period and 38 for the game to lift Everest to 14-6 overall and 7-3 in the WVC. West, ranked 7th in the state, saw their 47 game Wisconsin Valley Conference unbeaten streak end in falling to 12-7-1 overall and 7-1 in the WVC. West will host #1 ranked and unbeaten Green Bay Notre Dame Academy tonight at Marathon Park. The Tritons beat the Warriors in double overtime in last year’s state title game. Stevens Point moves into first place in the WVC at 8-1 after edging Wisconsin Rapids 3-2 at the South Wood County Rec Center. The Panthers and Red Raiders will meet again this afternoon at 4 p.m. in the make-up of a twice-postponed game at the K.B. Willett Arena.

Wausau East got two goals from Ben Feck and Andrew Dehnel in a 7-3 win at Marshfield. Nick Dovorany, Jack McGinnity, and Gabe McGinnity also had goals for East, who moved to 2-7 in the WVC. Marshfield drops to 0-9 in the league and got 2 goals from Zach Leggon and one from Bo Howard.
