Wrestling: West tops Merrill in WVC showdown

Third ranked Wausau West takes charge of the Wisconsin Valley Conference wrestling race with a 36-25 over second ranked Merrill on Thursday. West recorded four pins by Cody Grunenwald, River Judd, Travis Hettinga, and Bee Lor. Colin Baine had a win by technical fall as well for the Warriors, who are 6-0 in the WVC heading into Saturday’s WVC tourney in Wisconsin Rapids. Merrill fell to 5-1 in the Valley with the loss. The losses by pin hurt the Blue Jays, as each squad won seven matches on the night.

Also in WVC wrestling on Thursday, Wisconsin Rapids beat Wausau East 60-7.
