UWSP men’s basketball team stays hot with easy win over Superior
STEVENS POINT, Wis. – Jordan Giordana (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) scored 20 points as the No. 7 UW-Stevens Point men’s basketball team defeated UW-Superior Saturday afternoon, 82-55.
The Pointers closed out the first half with a 12-4 run to take a 39-23 lead into the break.
The Yellowjackets got to within 11 points when Johnquez Brooks hit a three pointer 3:30 into the second half, but that was as close as Superior would get for the rest of the game.
UWSP pushed its lead to 21 when DeVon Jackson (Milwaukee/Rufus King/Williston State) hit a three pointer to put the Pointers on top 61-40 with 9:36 left in the second half.
Sean McGann (Baraboo, WI/Baraboo) scored a season-high 10 points for UWSP and tallied six points in less than a two-minute span in the second half.
Giordana shot 4-for-6 from behind the arc. His 20 points marks the tenth time this season a Pointer has scored at least 20 in one game.
Jackson added 13 points off the bench and Clayton Heuer (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln/UW-Green Bay) finished with 11.
UWSP shot 52.6 percent from the field and turned the ball over just six times.
The Pointers continue their conference schedule when they travel to UW-Platteville Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 7 p.m.
