Boys’ BB: Auburndale maintains lead in Marawood-South while Marathon and Pittsville also win plus other action
The Auburndale boys’ basketball team stays perfect on the season as the Apaches top Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 54-44 on Thursday night. Austin Hawkins was big again for the Apaches, hitting 10 of 13 shots and scoring 21 points. Auburndale moves to 15-0 overall and 10-0 in the Marawood-South. Josh Paltz had 19 points for the Royals and Chase Lamp 12 but drop to 3-7 in the Marawood-South and 5-10 overall.
Marathon stays two games behind Auburndale in the Marawood-South after holding off Edgar 61-57 in a game heard on Sports Fan 100.5. Ross Wokatsch had 16 points and Colin Seubert 15 for the Red Raiders, who are 14-2 overall and 8-2 in the conference. Caden Untiedt had 16 points, David Kornack 14, and Travis Haanstad 10 for the Wildcats, who fell to 1-9 in the league and 5-9 overall.
Pittsville is still just 1/2 game behind Marathon for second in the Marawood-South after winning at Newman Catholic 51-36 in a game heard on 1230 The Voice and 1230wxco.com. Brad Wesely had 14 points for the Panthers, who extend their win streak to five and improve to 7-2 in the conference and 10-6 overall. Trail Pierce added 11 points for Pittsville. Tolga Ozturk had 13 points for Newman, who drops to 4-6 in the conference and 6-10 overall.
Wausau West had three players in double figures and the Warriors beat Chippewa Falls 53-31 in a non-conference game at the West Fieldhouse on Thursday night. Taylor Penn had 14 points, Andrew Fischer 12, and Kyle Nickel 11 for West.
Mosinee gets a basket from Andy Maas with 8 seconds to go to lift the Indians to a 40-39 win over Merrill. Maas had 18 points for Mosinee while David Jesperson led the Blue Jays with 15 points and Jake Anderson had 10.
