HS hockey: West, East, Merrill win while Storm tie on Saturday

The Wausau West hockey team extends their win streak to 7 games after winning at Madison Edgewood 3-0 in a game heard on 1230 The Voice and 1230wxco.com. Sam Wiegert recorded his sixth shutout of the season after stopping 16 shots. West scored one goal in each period to improve to 10-3-1 overall. Alex Gessler, Zach Peterson, and Justin Anderson had goals for the Warriors. West, ranked fifth in the state, will host #6 Northland Pines on Tuesday night in another game that will be heard on 1230 The Voice and 1230wxco.com starting with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m.

Wausau East wins their second game of the season by topping Lakeland 4-3 in overtime. Gunnar Bode scored the game-winner at 4:54 of overtime to lift the Lumberjacks to the win. Logan Nelson had two goals for East while Isaac Comfort had 25 saves.

Merrill beat Medford 5-3 as Dylan Heller recorded a hat trick for the Blue Jays. Harrison Davis had two goals for the Raiders while Carter Jamison made 29 saves. Stephen Simon had 34 saves for Merrill.

After 17 straight wins to start the season the Central Wisconsin Storm got their first blemish of the season in a 2-2 tie at St. Croix Valley. Kelly Knetter had a goal and an assist for the Storm while Megan Marlowe also had a goal. Sally Cranston scored the game-tying goal for the Fusion.
