HS girls’ BB: Witt-Birn stays undefeated by edging West plus other action

Monica Verkuilen and Savanah Vera each scored 14 points and Wittenberg-Birnamwood improves to 6-0 by beating Wausau West 55-51. The Chargers hit 15 of 18 free throws to hold off the Warriors. West falls to 5-3 and got 14 points from Anna Brown, 11 from Jasmin Samz and 10 from Kierra Kohlbeck.

Despite 21 points from Vanessa Boorse the Wausau East girls fall to Weyauwega-Fremont 52-43. Free throws hurt the Lumberjacks, who hit just 14 of 31 from the stripe. Morgan Wilson paced W-F with 20 points.

Marathon improves to 6-1 overall after beating Abbotsford 57-47. Brianna Wirkus had 16 points and Natasha Hanke 10 for the Red Raiders. The Falcons drop to 5-2 overall and got 11 points each from Shelly Kneifl and Brooklyn Gunderson.
