Badgers choose Utah State’s Andersen to replace Bielema
It appears the new head football coach at Wisconsin will be Utah State coach
Gary Andersen. Andersen is 48-years old and is finishing his fourth season
at Utah State, and has an overall record of 26-24, including 11-2 this
season. One of Utah State’s losses this year was a 16-14 setback at
Wisconsin in September. His team also beat Toledo in the Famous Idaho
Potato Bowl last week 41-15. Andersen was a defensive assistant at Utah
between 1997 and 2002, then spent a year as head coach at Southern Utah,
before rejoining the Utah staff for the 20 season. He stayed there for
another four seasons before taking the head coaching job at Utah State.
Andersen was also a candidate for the head coaching vacancies at Colorado,
Kentucky and California. At Wisconsin, Andersen replaces Bret Bielema, who
left the Badgers two weeks ago for the head coaching job at Arkansas.
