Wausau West wins sixth straight Marathon Cup championship

The Marathon Cup will spend another year at Wausau West after the Warriors beat D. C. Everest 3-0 in the championship game at Greenheck Fieldhouse on Saturday night, a game that was heard on 1230 The Voice. Kevin Conley scored twice in the first period to give the Warrior the lead. Zach Peterson added a power play goal in the second period and Sam Wiegert stopped 13 shots to record the shutout. Michael Moe had 20 saves for Everest, who fell to 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the Wisconsin Valley Conference. West is 5-3-1 overall and 2-0 in the WVC.

In the consolation game, Mosinee beats Wausau East 3-0. Jake Hrebik had two goals and Chris Tomski assisted on all three goals for the Indians. Matthew Sprink also scored for Mosinee and AJ Fuls made 20 saves. Issac Comfort was strong in goal for East with 35 saves.

In girls’ hockey, the unbeaten and top-ranked Central Wisconsin Storm rallied from a 2-0 deficit and topped Eau Claire/Altoona 3-2. Megan Marlowe, Alex Guenther, and Emilee Mytinger scored goals to lift the Storm to their ninth straight win to start the season.
