The basketball only schools in the Big East Conference could be on the verge
of leaving that league. Those seven schools are all Catholic institutions,
and they’ve met with Big East officials this week to determine the future of
the conference, and they plan to issue a statement on the conference
sometime this week. Those seven schools are Marquette, Georgetown, DePaul,
St. John’s, Seton Hall, Providence and Villanova. If they have enough
votes, that group of seven could dissolve the conference and start over
again. If they leave the conference, they would forfeit tournament revenue
and may also have to pay an exit fee.
