Baseball’s winter meetings are underway, and there are reports that the
Milwaukee Brewers are interested in free agent pitcher Ryan Dempster.
Dempster is 35-years old, and was a combined 10-8 with the Cubs and Texas
lst season. He has pitched in the major leagues since 1998, and has a
career record of 124-124. The Brewers would like to reduce their payroll
next season after losing money in 2012, and they were also burned on recent
contracts for free agent pitchers Jeff Suppan and Randy Wolf, so they may
not be willing to give Dempster anything longer than a two year deal.

The Milwaukee Brewers are acquiring reliever Burke Badenhop from Tampa Bay
for minor league outfielder Raul Mondesi, Jr. Badenhop appeared in 66 games
for the Rays last season and was 3-2 with a 3.30 ERA. Badenhop was acquired
by Tampa Bay from Miami following the 2011 season, and is 16-17 with a 4.08
ERA in his major league career with the Marlins and the Rays. Mondesi hit
.231 with 5 home runs and 32 rbis for the Brewers Rookie League farmclub at
Helena last season.
