UWSP men’s basketball team opens WIAC season with win over Superior
SUPERIOR, Wis. – The ninth-ranked UW-Stevens Point men’s basketball team opened Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play Saturday afternoon with a 79-68 win over the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior.

For the first time this season, UWSP trailed going into the break, as the Yellowjackets built a 37-34 edge at the break.
The Yellowjackets held the lead until midway through the second half, when Joe Ritchay (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln) knocked down a three-pointer, putting the Pointers up 54-51 and UWSP never trailed again.
Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) led the way for the Pointers as he scored a career-high 34 points, including 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. Clayton Heuer (Wisconsin Rapids, WI/Lincoln/UW-Green Bay) also reached double digits for the Pointers as he shot a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe, recording 16 points.
As a team, the Pointers finished 25-of-26 from the free throw line.
Jarrod Peterson led all the Jackets with 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting.
UWSP will travel to UW-Oshkosh Wednesday, Dec. 5 to take on the Titans. Tip off set for 7 p.m.
