Boys’ BB: Antigo beats West; Mosinee upsets East plus other action

Mac Oreskovic and Charlie Husnick each scored 13 points as the Antigo boys’ basketball team beat Wausau West 47-40 in the season-opener for both teams on Thursday night, a game heard on 1230 The Voice. Taylor Penn scored 16 points to lead the Warriors.

Mosinee tops Wausau East 58-53 behind 19 points and 12 rebounds from Andy Haas. Jay Ritger added 15 points for the Indians. East was paced by Conrad Felten with 18 points.

Wisconsin Rapids Assumption outlasts Abbotsford 74-72 in overtime. Kyle Roenius hit a three pointer in the final 30 seconds to win it for the Royals. Roenius had 19 points to lead Assumption while Chase Lamp scored 18 and Zach Linzmeier 11. Nathan Kunze scored a game-high 34 points for the Falcons.

Despite 18 points from Nate Prososki, Newman Catholic drops their season-opener at Rib Lake 55-48 in overtime. Marcus Gabriel had 10 points for the Carinals. Justin Bloomberg had 11 points with Joe Frombach and Jordan Corday adding 10 points each for Rib Lake.

Wisconsin Valley Lutheran runs past Northland Lutheran 68-60 with Dex DePasse leading the way with 22 points and Branson Witucki adding 18. Nortland Lutheran was led by Maarten Colby’s 19 points and Gideon Nelson scored 14.

Jon Nyberg had 24 points as Tomahawk rolls past Three Lakes 71-39. The Hatchets used a 21-3 advantage in the second quarter to take a 25 point lead at halftime.
