No. 17 junior Chris McCullough is Syracuse’s first commitment in the 2014 class. Reggie Rankin writes the 6-foot-10 forward’s length and mobility will make him a perfect fit on the back line of Syracuse’s trademark 2-3 zone defense. Blog
McCullough, who is from the Bronx and attends Brewster Academy in New Hampshire, chose Syracuse after previously listing St. John’s, Rutgers, Florida, Florida State, Louisville, West Virginia and UCLA among his favorites.
Jerry McCullough confirmed the commitment shortly after Brewster teammate Ron Patterson, who just pledged to Syracuse on Saturday, first tweeted the news at 3:42 p.m. ET.
McCullough responded 12 minutes later by tweeting, “Cuse Babbbbbyyyy!”
Rumors have circulated that McCullough might reclassify to join Syracuse’s 2013 class, but both AAU coach Terrence Williams and Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith have said in recent weeks that such a move is highly unlikely at this point.
The Orange have landed one of the most naturally talented players in the 2014 class. McCullough has an incredibly rare combination of length, agility, athleticism and basketball skill.
