Pointer women’s soccer team falls 1-0 at Whitewater in WIAC title game
WHITEWATER, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women’s soccer team’s offense was stifled by UW-Whitewater as the Pointers suffered a scoreless loss in the WIAC Championship game Saturday afternoon, 1-0.
The Warhawks’ only goal of the game came in the 22nd minute as Jessica Allemang gave the tournament’s top seed the 1-0 lead.
The Pointers’ defense was able to hold off Whitewater for the remainder of the game but was unable get past Warhawks goalie Jordan Myers, who recorded 14 saves.
Goalkeeper Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) recorded five saves for the Pointers.
“Our girls played a phenomenal 90 minutes of soccer this afternoon,” said UWSP head coach Megan Schmidt. “I am very proud of the adversity they overcame this season and how they exceeded the expectations of other teams in this conference. Our senior class did a great job of stepping into a leadership role and turning this team from a sixth-place team a year ago to a second-place team today.”
UWSP closes its regular season at 13-6-1 (5-3-0 WIAC).
