Pointer hockey team completes Minnesota sweep
MINNEAPOLIS – UW-Stevens Point improved its record to 3-2 overall and went a perfect 2-0 on the weekend, defeating the Auggies of Augsburg College 3-0 on Saturday evening at the Ed Saugestad Rink.

The Pointers got on the board midway through the first period, as assistant captain Scott Henegar (Trenton, MI/Trenton) scored his first goal of the season off assists from Kyle Politz (Elko, MN/Apple Valley) and Jerry Freismuth (Grosse Pointe, MI/North), giving UWSP the 1-0 edge.
In the second, Nick Kenney (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake Western) scored his second of the year off an assist from Jon Bockmann (Wind Lake, WI/Muskego) to give UWSP a 2-0 advantage.
In the third, the Pointers held fast and, with just under a minute remaining, as Augsburg pulled its goalie in favor of an extra attacker on the power play, Kyle Politz (Elko, MN/Apple Valley) tallied his first goal of the year as UWSP cruised to the win.
Senior Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) tallied his fourth career shutout, stopping 28 shots on net by the Auggies to earn the victory. Augsburg keeper John Bretzman suffered the loss, allowing two goals and recording 34 saves including 14 in the third.
UW-Stevens Point (3-2) returns to Northern Collegiate Hockey Association action with a weekend road series against the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior. Action gets underway Friday evening at 7 p.m. at Wessman Arena.
