EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Jessica Ruch (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) played the heroic role not once but twice in the UW-Stevens Point women’s soccer team’s 2-1 win over UW-Eau Claire in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinal Thursday.
Box Score
Trailing 1-0 with 51 seconds remaining in regulation, Ruch found the back of the net to send the game into overtime. Just over seven minutes into overtime Ruch put the game away with a score assisted by Jen Jobke (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton).
The Blugold went up early as Paige LeGate scored in the 24th minute, but UWSP goalkeeper Kristen Churkey (Mosinee, WI/D.C. Everest) kept UWEC off the scoreboard for the rest of the game and finished with six saves.
The Pointers offense was relentless, taking 28 shots on goal. UWEC goalkeeper Nina Behrenbrinker recorded 17 saves.
The Pointers will face UW-Whitewater at Whitewater on Saturday to decide the 2012 WIAC Tournament Champion. Action set for 1 p.m.
